Abstract

Written as a supporting publication, to accompany the exhibition 'Virginia Woolf: Art, Life and Vision', held at the National Portrait Gallery, London, in 2014, this book explores Virginia Woolf's life and work in relation to portraiture, her recognition of the unstable self, mutability, interiority and her fascination with the modern city, as well as in connection with her friendships with artists and writers, her interest in the Spanish Civil War, and her growing politicisation in relation to the issue of war and hie position of women in society.
