Developments in tributyltin (TBT)-free antifoulings and foul release systems are described. The key characteristics of biocides that can be successfully used to boost the performance of copper as a biocide are outlined. Biocide-release mechanisms are described. Controlled depletion polymer antifoulings, self-polishing copolymer antifoulings, hybrid systems, and foul release products are discussed with reference to the product range of International Coatings.
