Abstract

This title provides an analysis of the relationship between business and politics in Japan. It specifies those business leaders, firms and politicians in Japan who are central to the business-politics relationship and provides the basis to identify future actors. Instead of underlining the centrality of politics to Japanese business, James Babb covers all the key areas of the relationship in depth: policy-making, business organization, political finance, and global pressures. The approach is critical but balanced. It identifies problems and analyzes solutions without ignoring normative and cultural issues. The information provides a solid background to the evolving relationship. It should be useful reading for investors interested in the Japanese market and the prospects for economic reform, and for students who seek a firm understanding of the Japanese political process.
