Abstract

A comparative study of two different pdf equations, modelling the deposition of dispersed particles from a simple turbulent boundary layer, is presented. The relationship between the two models, and issues concerning the numerical treatment of these, are discussed. A hybrid numerical method, that takes advantage of characteristic features exhibited by the pdfs, is outlined, and results from this type of approach considered. The results illustrate important difference between the two modelling approaches. Further, despite the simplicity of the pdf models analyzed here, the results clearly demonstrate the potential of such models, when coupled with well-designed numerical schemes, for direct application in the study of disperse particle transport.
