Abstract

The rapid development of new genetic diagnostic tests for conditions causing disordered neurodevelopment has been enormously beneficial. The appropriate use of these often expensive and time consuming tests however, requires careful clinical assessment of the patient. It is important to remember that the results of these tests may have implications for other family members. Technological advances are likely to improve the availability of such tests further increasing their diagnostic importance. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
