Abstract

Susan Hiller, formerly Baltic Professor of Fine Art at Newcastle University, has been a ubiquitous presence in the art world over many years, but up until this Tate Britain exhition, experience of her work had mostly been accrued piecemeal. Although not a full retrospective, this show offered a generous and representative selection of her work over the last four decades. This review discussed the ways in which it affirmed her broad appeal, her intelligent pursuit of rigorous methods, her innovative and often collaborative strategies and her imaginatve empathy.
