This overview of musical compositions and writings by Dieter Schnebel in honour of his 80th birthday expands on some of my earlier writings on his work to consider the ways that his approach to composition have reflected social conscience, an integrated approach to composer, performer and audience, and an awareness of the responsibilities of the artist that should be associated with classical ideas of wisdom.
