| Summary of research undertaken on the likely effect of the expansion of the Panama Canal on ship design. The conclusion is that the effect will be significant and will be de-coupled to a large degree from the effect of changes to seaborne trade resulting from the expansion. 25% of the ovean-going fleet has panamax beam, far larger than the proportion that would be suggested by the volume of trade flowing through the Canal. |
