Abstract

A copper-alloy zoomorphic escutcheon from Twyning was reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme in 2006. This unfinished object is likely to be of 5th-century date and is well paralleled by the escutcheons on the Finningley hanging bowls. It may indicate the location of an early post-Roman power centre.
