Abstract

Recent geographical scholarship on evangelicalism and political action has tended to spotlight the geopolitical visions of right-wing, conservative, US evangelicalism. Although interrogating such theologies and geographies is important, it is also vital to remember that Christian scriptures have been read to inform very different political engagements. This will be demonstrated using two examples: US evangelicals who walked on a pilgrimage through Europe and the Middle East in apology for the Crusades, and readings of apocalyptic scripture by South African anti-apartheid activists.
