Abstract

his article reports on the progress of a project called Formative Assessment in Mathematics and Science Education (FaSMEd, http://research.ncl. ac.uk/fasmed/). We are beginning to understand that all learning involves assessment and the project explores how this idea of ‘learning as assessment’ is implemented across a number of countries in both mathematics and science. We believe that formative assessment is a process which ‘makes learning visible’ and closes the loop between learners, peers, and teachers with constructive feedback.
