Abstract

England's National Par Authorities (NPAs) have been proactively responding to socioeconomic change as part of a broader strategy to achieve sustainable development. The English NPAs work through statutory management plans, which set out how sustainable development is to be achieved in each of the park areas. There are good case study examples of how the NPAs have responded to the challenge of ensuring small business development and securing affordable housing. Other challenges, particularly the ageing population have received less attention to date.
