| Notes | | This book examines the fabricated body in medical culture. This single authored chapter examines how the transgendered body is fabricated through surgical practices. The chapter first addresses how surgery is centrally positioned within medical discourse on transgender, and moves on to explore how surgical practices are variously understood and practised in the 'everyday'. The chapter positions gender reconstructive surgical practice as a site of contestation, and shows how understandings and practices of the surgically fabricated body are contingently situated alongside divergent transgendered experiences and identity formations. |
