| This paper is concerned in reporting the improvements in the design and performance of permanent magnet machines employing claw pole armatures constructed using compacted insulated iron powder - soft magnetic composite (SMC) as it has become known. Using a quasi-optimisation process a new prototype has been designed and constructed. Through the improved electromagnetic design and enhanced thermal performance the new machine delivers 9.3 Nm/kg compared to 3.3 Nm/kg for an earlier prototype machine. (5 References). |
