Abstract

In the installation "Ich sehe schwarz weiss" presented the outcome of the research into Souvinir Sculptures (partly supported by the AHRC and the University of Newcastle) in a dramatically lit blacked out Gallery space. The 30 souvenir sculptures depicting utalitarian buildings from Merseyside, Tyneside and Glasgow were displayed on wooden shipping crates which furthered associations of displacement, storage and death as an act of forgetting. The collection of Souvenir sculptures contains buildings of Merseyside, some of which have been distroyed during the fast re-building process instigated during Liverpool's "big dig" building programme in anticipation of the City of Culture statues.
