Abstract

This chapter reports the experience of a study of the planning and implementation processes of urban design projects undertaken within the framework of the Politique de la Ville, a national policy for an integrated urban and social development established in the 1980s in France by President Mitterrand and developed with several changes over the years. This chapter particularly investigates the potential of the planning and implementation processes (as well as the completed projects) to contribute to social reform and the development of new forms of democracy.
