On the Threshold of a Dream was the first major solo survey exhibition of artworks by Zoë Walker & Neil Bromwich. The work investigates the idea of ‘in between’ states and places. Using performances, sculptures and videos the works often encourage the participation of the audience and are both playful and utopian in their exploration of the notion of art's ability to overcome boundaries. Walker & Bromwich’s playful approach to this theme is seen in particular in the oversized inflatable sculptures Friendly Frontier No 1 and Siege Weapons of Love. Working together since 1999, Walker & Bromwich’s own practice blurs the distinction between individual artistic identities. In its idealistic desire for a better world, their work offers the hope of co-operation and shared outcomes. The works employ powerful visual aesthetic as well a sound to explore some of life’s big subjects such as the pursuit of happiness and the nature of belief.
