I devised, co-directed and perform in the touring music-theatre show 'Northumbrian Voices'.It is based on original research I have done over the last twenty years with the older generation of traditional Northumbrian musicians. Within the show there is a large spoken word element, most of which is taken from transcriptions of recorded interviews i conducted with these musicians as well as other people from the same isolated rural communities (including members of my own family)The show incorporates my arrangements of traditional Northumbrian folk tunes as well as newly written music and songs, including several of my own compositions.The show was co-directed by Annie Rigby (Unfolding Theatre)The show premieres with 2 nights at The Sage Gateshead. Both nights were sold out a month before the performances.
