Reconsiders the history of Puffin books in the context of progressive publishing in Britian in the 1930s and shows how the subesequent dominance of reactionary ideas has effaced an important aspect of children's bok history. The effect of this on how the future is presented in children's literature is explored through a range of texts, from Naomi Mitchison's An Outline for Bys and Girls and their Parents (1932) to Saci Lloyd's Momentum (2011).
