Abstract

With the increasing penetration of photovoltaic generation systems in the grid, the use of grid-connected photovoltaic converters for reactive power compensation has been proposed to increase the utilization of the system's voltage source converter. Power factor correction and voltage regulation at the point of common coupling are among the proposed methods. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of a photovoltaic converter with reactive power compensation connected to the distribution grid. The system is based on a single-stage PV converter controlled using direct power control with space vector modulation (DPC-SVM). Results for day-time and night-time operation are presented.
