Abstract

Among the number of new professional figures emerged with the rise of knowledge economy, project management (PM) is one of most debated both in theoretical research and among practitioner. The ongoing debates on this occupation have had the effect to reinforce its presence in many aspect of modern society. The institutionalization of PM as a profession has developed differently according to the different environments in which it has settled. Our objective in this work has been to seize an example of this professional project: the Italian case. Through a qualitative case study (made up of semi-structured interviews and archival data) we found a nested set of different strategies and different actors that characterize the field. This work constitutes the first detailed and comprehensive study in the field of PM within the Italian context.
