In spite of the fact that Candida is one of the most important human fungal pathogens, little is known about immune mechanisms involved in protection. This chapter on Candida Immunity gives an overview of general data and own published and current data dealing with immune mechanisms involved in protection against Candida; a separate section deals with current concepts of immune defects in chronic mucocutaneous candidasis, focusing primarily on own novel hypothesis based on published and current data.

Notes: This is an invited contribution on Immunity to Candida in a prestigious, rare and long-overdue publication dealing with the rapidly expanding field of fungal immunity. The editors are respected international authorities on the subject while the contributers are currently the best in their respective fields. As first author, I have contributed most of the chapter and all data relating to immunity while my co-author contributed microbiological data. This chapter gives an overview of general data and focuses on my own published and current data dealing with immune mechanisms involved in protection against Candida; additionally, I contributed a separate and rather unique section on my novel, current hypothesisi of immune defects in chronic mucocutaneous candidasis based on own previously published and current data.
