Orcadia & Other Stories was a major survey exhibition of work by Zoë Walker & Neil Bromwich spanning more than 15 years of production. The exhibition was part of the influential nationwide survey of Scottish Art ‘Generation, 25 years of Contemporary Art in Scotland’. The exhibition particularly profiled our public works made over the last five years, and in particular the ways in which they engage audiences in re-visioning specific environments. Alongside this the artist developed a practice led research pilot project, Orcadia, a Game for Change especially for the exhibition in Orkney. That used participatory game-play, performance to explore local community perspectives surrounding the recent development of marine renewable energy. Set against the islands' folk-law, history and culture. Orkney is leading the way in the development of tidal and wave energy technologies and this activity sits alongside the more traditional industries of farming, fishing, tourism and cultural heritage. This backdrop provides a narrative of change and development that highlights divergent views of the future that feed into the research through the artists’ collaborative and informal approach.
