Abstract

© 2014 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. All rights reserved. This chapter introduces the rationale for intervening early in Bipolar Affective Disorder and the findings from preliminary research in this area. It focusses on the different stages of the first episode and outlines treatment recommendations for patients, not only to address the phase they present in but also to prevent progression to the next stage of illness.
