Abstract

©, 2014, Inst. of Scientific and Technical Information of China. All right reserved. The following are described and interpreted briefly: the advanced amorphous alloys' unique microstructure characterized by long-range disorder and short-range in order of the nearest-neighbor atoms, their very useful mechanical, physical, chemical properties brought by the microstructure, and the difficulties in manufacturing and machining bulk amorphous alloys caused by their excellent properties. Then, the characteristics and current application situations of four main state-of-the-art technologies for manufacturing of bulk amorphous alloys, namely, cutting, non-traditional machining, superplastic forming and welding, are reviewed systematically; the concept of free volume mode, one of the important structural features of bulk amorphous alloys, as well as its importance, are summarized theoretically; and the deformation mechanisms of amorphous alloys under manufacturing and machining are analyzed from the angles of local shear zone, Newtonian viscous flow and atomic transition. Finally, future research trends in manufacturing of amorphous are concluded, and some techniques needing solving are proposed.
