Abstract

Commissioned by Kathryn Tickell & The Side, this work builds on the compositional potential of one tune by Kathryn Tickell, The Gathering. The piece engages with the challenge of building a five-minute composition in a contemporary idiom based on that pre-existing material, and the challenge of writing a chamber piece for the hitherto untried combination of Northumbrian pipes, accordion, cello and lever harp.
