Abstract

Orchestra of Rocks: A Rock Concert is a collaborative and improvisational work including experimental sound performance; Sculptures (simulated Rock Speakers); and lighting. The starting point: The project builds on my previous work Playing the Cave - a playful evocation of ancient rituals, myth and man's desire, often futile, to gain control over nature. https://vimeo.com/151054720 The new work will be composed of three distinct but intersecting elements: An installation of 8 sculptural, free-standing, simulated “fake-rock” speakers mounted on speaker stands based on re-sized stones collected in the significant sites in the East End. The speakers will be installed across the space (height between 5ft and 6ft). Each speaker will be connected to one sound channel on a mixing deck. (Uta Kogelsberger) A video projection of morphing rocks: New recordings of individual raindrops from bridges, over passes, building overhangs and underground spaces, near the site of presentation, recorded with the amplifying and sound-distorting help of buckets (see video work playing the cave for reference https://utakogelsberger.net/2016/12/12/playing-the-cave-2015/) will be handed over to 8 experimental sound artists to develop new improvisations. Hovering between experimental music, performance and sculptural installation with light the work will draw the spectators into an immersive experience. This celebratory aspect of the work will be re-enforced through the collaborative and improvisational nature of the work.
