Abstract

In this chapter we explore experiences of women elite leaders through a postfeminist lens. Through a re-reading of three of our recent empirical studies we illustrate postfeminism as a discourse that surfaces issues of surveillance, makeover, transformation and choice. Specifically, our re-reading focuses upon the themes double entanglement, choice and body-care. In our attempts to offer a contribution to postfeminist analysis, we toy with our own struggles with the features and assumptions of postfeminism, alongside our sense of responsibility to stay ‘true’ to the women elite leaders’ experiences. In this pursuit we experience felt tensions whereby we know we risk privileging certain voices, those of women elites and middle class women, while potentially rendering others voiceless.
