Abstract

© 2016 IEEE. EMAT is an emerging non-destructive testing technique which has been applied to the pipelines monitoring. It has advantages of non coupling agent and can be used in high temperature, high accuracy as well as wide range detection. High energy consumption and low conversion efficiency are two main challenges for NDT by using EMAT. This paper proposes a new pipeline electromagnetic ultrasonic excitation power and transducer design based on series resonant EMAT sensor. The specific contents include: (i) Electromagnetic acoustic transducer energy transfer principle analysis. (ii) Series resonant structure EMAT sensors design and energy analysis. Simulation have been conducted and the validation results of the proposed structure that provide an effective method to verify the new design of excitation power for EMAT pipeline NDT.
