February 2017 marks the second anniversary of the national roll-out of the Freight Operator Recognition Scheme which to-date has attracted c10,200 site memberships (a member is defined as an individual site, thus one organisation with multiple sites is likely to have multiple memberships, i.e. one FORS membership per location). To mark the anniversary of this roll-out of a quality management system, and to integrate the aspirations of the CILT as a FORS Community Partner with AECOM and Fleet Source, as well as our future relationship with the Institute of Operations Management, Dr Erica Ballantyne (Sheffield University), Dr Graeme Heron (Newcastle University) and Ian Vincent (AECOM) are undertaking a research project to assess the progression of the FORS scheme and determine the case for FORS as a business readiness operations and quality management tool with specific focus for the Northern Powerhouse transport agenda.
