A short (5min and 12min versions) documentary film based inquiry into the relationship between the Gaelic language, Scottish marine policy and the preservation of Hebridean fishing communities in South Uist, Outer Hebrides. The project was undertaken in collaboration with Dr. Magnus Course from The University of Edinburgh and the Western Isles Fishing Association. This impact driven short documentary film output has been made predominantly to be viewed by policy makers in Scotland, to help inform decisions around the importance of increased consideration being allocated to the impact on the Gaelic Language, and Gaelic speaking communities within any future debates on marine policy in Scotland (currently there is no mention of the impact of the Gaelic language in any marine policy in Scotland). The project has received ESRC impact (ESRC IAA) support through Edinburgh University. This is the first film output of a wider project which will also include a mid length creative documentary film for public audiences.
