It is about how we live our lives well, about doing the right thing rather than the wrong thing; it’s about good and bad. Applied at the level of individuals, decisions about the person should be good decisions or the right decisions for that individual at that time. e two words ‘ethics’ and ‘morals’ are, to all intents and purposes, used synonymously despite semantic dierences. In this chapter, we shall sketch issues in dementia care that raise issues of right or wrong, good or bad. It should be noted, too, that ethics and morals are not just relevant to personal decisions, they relate to public policy too: ethics is the foundation of politics.
