Abstract

© 2016 by Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. Ceramics and ceramic coatings have been widely used in many types of engineering systems and have fulfilled a wide range of functions [1–10], such as protecting structural materials in harsh environment, wear resistance, energy storage, and optical properties. The coating deposition techniques and process conditions affect residual stress and microstructure in the coating, which consequently affect the mechanical properties of the coating (e.g., Young’s modulus, hardness, fracture toughness, and interface adhesion). Therefore, evaluation of key mechanical properties can be followed as quality control for the coating systems.
