Collaboration with Andy Sheppard This was commissioned by music north to commemorate the opening of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and to represent the breadth of new musical opportunities that the Sage Gateshead will bring to the North of England. A multi-media work, the performance took place on 14.09.01 on the Bridge itself and also included live video footage on giant video screens at either side of the river, a specially commissioned film sequence of archive footage of bridge/ship building on the Tyne, and the inclusion of string players from the Northern Sinfonia. The music was released on CD by Provocateur Records. The initial pressing of 7000 sold out within a month and there has been a second pressing which has also sold out. The piece was later performed in front of the Queen as part of a Royal Gala performance in 2002, and extract from it were performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the South Bank in London as part of the Arts and Business Awards in November 2002.
