Abstract

The chapter interrogates the National Theatre's productions of Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, examining the transition from page to stage, the use of puppets to play daemons, issues of adults performing children, and the tension between the need for new audiences, new media and the adaptation of the novels.
