Abstract

Art catalogue documenting works and offering commentary on co-produced art for an exhibition where citizens, industry, unions, and government have the opportunity to engage with artistically informed research on Sweden's fossil-free transition. The exhibition has taken shape in collaboration with people who live and work in three Swedish industrial towns – Lysekil, Luleå, and Slite. Inside the exhibition space, you will hear sounds from the towns' industries and natural environments. These sounds illustrate how the industries have become a part of the places' ecology.Imagining the future can be like navigating through fog for some. Unclear future prospects evoke feelings of uncertainty, worry, and confusion. But fog can also help sharpen our senses and chart new directions. In the midst of uncertainty, new possibilities emerge.Industrial towns are not homogeneous places. They encompass a diversity of experiences and stories. The exhibition reflects this diversity and tells us what it might feel like to live in a time of transition.Artistically informed research aims to engage people's emotions, senses, knowledge, and imaginations. It is a research tradition that can open up new ways to approach Sweden's fossil-free transition. Not everyone has the same opportunities to participate in the decisions that shape our common future. Therefore, we need to be receptive and actively listen for more voices and stories.
