Abstract

Archival Annotations is a five-part series that captures women’s experiences of the production and experience of artworks. It was created as part of Undutiful Spirit's archive residency at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. A six-month residency that explored the materials of BALTIC's archive and investigated what the BALTIC may look like in 20 years, re-valuing hidden labour and considering notions of care and the agency of the archive.Undutiful Spirit, a collaboration between artists Rosie Morris and Harriet Sutcliffe and curator Gayle Meikle, is a practice-led forum that considers site-specific working methods generated through the women-identifying subject experience. The collective’s latest project is BALTIC Artists Archive Residency, a sixth-month enquiry considering the Archive as a meeting place to think about women’s identities, histories, mythologies, and potential civic futures through the historical record of BALTIC.
