Abstract

© The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023. Accurate magnetic material loss prediction is preeminent to reliable and repeatable motor design using finite analysis. Two sample sizes and four materials were tested to ascertain the material loss for use in a hybrid motor design. Toroidal ring samples were made from NO20 and M250 electrical steel laminations and Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) 700HR 5P and an experimental SMC material under development at Höganäs AB. This paper presents the discrepancy between the published loss data and measured test data.
