Abstract

An album containing new compositions by Kathryn Tickell and by Corrina Hewat and traditional material in innovative arrangements for various permutations of Northumbrian pipes, fiddle, harp and two voices. The centrepiece is the work Favourite Place, appearing in two versions, a piece of oral history featuring Tickell's spoken voice narrating recollections of a rural Northumbrian childhood of the 1950s. The words are all taken from recordings made by Tickell as part of an ongoing research project. Several tracks from this album have been broadcast on various national radio programmes, including BBC Radio 3's Late Junction where Favourite Place was played in its full eleven-minute version on two consecutive weeks.
