Abstract

Galvanostatic polarization data for a small scale and a large scale direct methanol fuel cells are given. Results from a flow visualization study of the DMFC are used to highlight problems of gas management. Issues on effective manifold design and the effect of operating conditions for the anode side gas management are discussed. Thermal, flow distribution and pressure drop modelling is used to predict stack performance under variable operating conditions. Temperature profiles, pressure losses and flow maldistribution across the stack are addressed.
