Abstract

Third generation (3G) and the Internet are identified as the main drivesr for the future generation mobile telecommunication market. Several concerns arise when Internet Protocol (IP) transport is introduced. Applications such as streaming and packet telephony will cause network congestion. This will affect the Quality of Service (QoS) of voice communication. This paper discusses the QoS and the parameters that affect it. A significant increase in packet size due to header compression is one of the factors that affect the quality. The integration of voice and data will have a great impact on the quality of voice. Therefore, traffic management is necessary in order to support a variety of services on a single infrastructure. The paper discusses the impact of integrating voice with data in IP based network and scheduling technique was deployed. © 2007 IEEE.
