Abstract

A method for the classification of cellular users as being either static or mobile is presented. This information is extracted from the variation of averaged signal strength measurement reports by means of a very low complexity algorithm involving maximum likelihood Gaussian estimation. Simulation results are very encouraging, suggesting an estimation accuracy from 80 to 95%.
