Abstract

The crystal structure of B20H26, isolated from the autolysis of nido-B10H14 in a silent electrical discharge was experimentally studied. The isomeric globular borane was found to exhibit crystallographic inversion symmetry and intercage B-B bond. A 1500 V AC silent discharge through a glass tube containing decarborane(14) yielded yellow material. Spectroscopic analysis indicated the presence of boron hydride species on dichloromethane extraction of the material.
