New psychologic models of psychosis onset and maintenance form the basis for psychotherapeutic intervention. These models, techniques, and effect sizes are briefly summarized. Also provided are an overview of the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in schizophrenia and the results of recent trials. These trials report positive outcomes in patients with medication-resistant schizophrenia who received expert-provided CBT, as well as improved understanding and adherence to therapy.
