Abstract

The use of the bromosulfimide Ph2S double bonded with NBr was analyzed as nitrogen source in reactions with selenium-based systems. The N-bromosulfimide Ph2S double bonded with NBr reacts with a range of selenium sources including, elemental selenium itself, to generate to explosive nitride Se4N4. Addition of solid Ph3PSe to an excess of the bromosulfide was dissolved in MeCN led to precipitation of an insoluble orange product. d. It was stated that reaction of the compound with selenium raises the possibility that the bromosulfide could be capable of acting as nitride source towards main group elements.
